Now that I am able to get out and about a bit more my classic is getting used a fair bit. 300 miles in last three days. Adjusted the chain for the first time , I am tempted to change it for a `good make` one. Not sure yet. It averages just over 90 mpg, happy with that, it has 2500 miles on now. Not much vibration at 50/55 a little more at 60/65 and very little at 70 - 80 mph. I hit the rev limiter in all gears on occasions, except 5th, I reckon top speed will be just over 85 before it cuts out. Gearbox is ok, had better but had a lot worse, mainly I sometimes miss first to second but only when I have my fireman's boots on. Acceleration is good enough for me and 55 to 70 in top is pretty good. All in all, I am still very happy with it, I will take it for 3000 mile service in a couple of weeks. there you go :) 8)

All sounds good Mr Spooky, glad you’re happy and enjoying the steed. Happy daze 👍
-
Thanks for the update. I've been watching a lot of YouTube on the Classic which sits at the top of my wish list. Any modifications planned?
-
Quite happy with it as it is, only thing I have changed is the exhaust system, it now has a Hitchcocks upswept type, I have an air injection delete kit to put on, but to be honest i don`t think it needs it. It runs just as well without the baffle in as well, but a bit loud :D
-
Cool colour too 👍
-
Thanks for the pic and info, Spooky. 😎

Just spoke to supplying dealer about 3000 mile service, said cost will be about £80, hopefully having a ride up in a couple of weeks, going to try and pick a nice day and go via backroads, should be a 230 mile round trip. With a bit of luck he will give me a demo bike for a while..
-
What yer fancy? 🤔🙏
-
If I get a 'loaner' it will probably be a Himalayan again.... But if he has a used Victory that would be intersting. An interceptor would certainly be nice to ride again, but a bullet or classic would be good to compare with mine.
-
Feet forward on the Victory? Always wanted to find out how that feels, ever since I clapped eyes on a lovely little 650 Savage bobber in the 90's.
-
Had a great ride to Dumfries and back to get bike serviced, £80...probably last dealer service. He gave me a bullet trials to use for a couple of hours, very nice, seemed to be lower geared but felt very light and nimble, then I got back on mine and liked it better, but only just, I think the trials tyres don't have as good grip, but still ok.

Nice day for the run Rufus. It's the best we have had since the second week in August and the martins and swallows left us on Monday, with the geese coming in on the same day.
Good health, Bill

Can I ask why you purchased new as opposed to low mileage, 2nd hand? I'm trying to get my research in on this beauty and the more I see the more I want one!😛
-
I did look at low mileage used ones and yes, I could have saved a fair bit of cash. But I really wanted to know The bike had been run in properly, getting a new one meant I could choose the colour I wanted rather than just one I liked the look of. I am more than happy with it. I had intended getting one of the new `Trials` bullets but then was swayed by squadron Blue...
-
Thanks. You've confirmed what I was thinking about buying 2nf hand, especially at around the run in mileage.
Here's what I liked on eBay;

Love the tan & cherry paint, but what if they've pootled around or hammered the bearings ? My understanding is that the vibes might never go away.
-
Nice, but for £498 more you can have a new one....

Aye Matt,
Change the oil, check all the clearances and pressures and give it a good canter over 100 miles of varied running with a free throttle. When you get back home dump the oil, wash filter and check for "bits or shrapnel" let it all cool down, check clearances again, refill with oil and away you go for another 500 miles, gradually increases the load on the motor.
If it throws a wobbler, send it back to the dealer! Even though the eBay advert says 'No returns accepted'. I think the following from the eBay website applies:
https://pages.ebay.co.uk/safetycentre/rights.html#scratch (https://pages.ebay.co.uk/safetycentre/rights.html#scratch)
"Types of statements that are prohibited by law
Any statement which could have the effect of causing the average person to believe that they have less or no consumer rights to pursue a justified claim against a trader is void and may amount to a criminal offence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. Below, you will find a list of the typical restrictive statements which may not be used:
No refunds.
No sale goods exchanged or money refunded.
Sold as seen and inspected.
No refunds or exchanges without a receipt.
Time limits for reporting defects e.g. defects not notified within 14 days of receipt cannot be accepted.

As always with eBay "Caveat emptor"! ;)

Never read that small print before, thanks, Bill (QC) ;D
-
Nice, but for £498 more you can have a new one....
But not in "my" colour!
Ah well, have to be the red one, then...

8). Hang on - ad says 1 mile, but Speedo pic shows 4. A demonstrator? Too little mileage, surely?
-
If I remember right when mine was collected it had 7 miles on but it had just had it`s pdi and Gordon had been up the road and back, worth asking though, the Red `Redditch` edition was one of my early possible colours,
Just noticed all the new ones say 2 years warranty, the Red one doesn`t ? I would ask if it is a `new` one

My eyes were drawn to this bit of sales " ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)" "CHECK OUT THE LOW RATE 9.9 APR FINANCE PACKAGE UP TO 60 MONTHS ON THIS BIKE"!
A bit of a rip-off considering current bank interest rates or credit card 0% deals available!
Happy pondering and hope that the RE fairy delivers for you Matt.
Throwing a deluge up here at the moment. :(
Good health, Bill

It's all pie in the sky whilst we're continuing to shield our lad, but at the price, even the likes of me can consider finance.
I'm following through on the knowledge I've gained, following my leap of faith from faster bikes to the XBR. It has been the more sedate pace, along with decent handling, a sweet exhaust note, ease of maintenance that have produced so many "smiles per mile" and a record 4.5 years of ownership.
Too many videos for me to ignore have shown these features being even more abundant on the Classic 500 and I would never need to alter it's appearance, it looks so sweet as is.
Here's one I watched yesterday by a very enthusiastic American.;
