Title: Advertisements
Post by: Oldtimer on August 13, 2020, 09:46:46 PM
Are the adverts that pop up on our site genuine. I don't mean members adverts but the ones at the top of the page. Are they all vetted by our administrator?

As far as I’m aware Mike they are genuine. I remember Gareth telling me about them a few years back when we were down at the Stafford show. Just don’t go clicking on the “over 40’s single dating” ads that pop up.... you’ll just get bombarded with nothing but them from there on in. So my mate tells me 🤣😉👍
Name withheld to protect the innocent 😇

Download a free Adblocker and you won't get them!

Or you could always try
Duckduckgo as your browser

I thought duckduckgo was a search engine (I use it) rather than a browser? I do use adblock and have never seen ads on this site. Mind you it's based on simplemachines which is free and open source so isn't trying to flog us junk all the time.

Thanks for the advise Steve... I’ll let my mate know, that way he won’t keep getting bombarded with the free dating sites 🤣🤣👍😉

That site seems to be about firefox focus which is for mobiles etc (android & that apple rubbish). To stop tracking I use an add-on for firefox (windows) called ghostery. However, some e-commerce sites won't work properly unless I disable tracking for them which is a shame and something I regularly complain about.

The adverts are delivered by Google, they will be genuine I have little control over content.
The use of an ad blocker is up to you. However whilst they may be a minor inconvenience, try to bear in mind the adverts pay for the hosting costs. Very little in life is free.
