I've just bought a Honda XBR500 with a nasty looking exhaust, which I intend to replace ASAP. Who makes replacement exhausts for this bike? I looked at the Motad site, but they don't appear to make one. I want something which looks right and just bolts straight on. I need front pipes and silencer(s).

As far as I know the only people making a full system at the moment are Predetor - stainless steel @ £340

Micron systems sometimes come up on Ebay. If your front pipes aren't too bad you can remove the silencers - even the one piece exhausts can be pursuaded apart - and fit universal aftermarket silencers of your choice.
Exhausts are a problem with XBR's.. you want to check that your back brake hasn't gone oval too - pulsing when you lightly apply the brake - it's expensive to fix as the drum liner is too thin to skim properly and the problem is caused by water getting into the gap between the steel liner and alloy drum and causing corrosion which distorts the liner. Good rear wheels are also hard to find too. :-\

Thanks for that. The drum is ok, but the exhaust is a really nasty 2 into 1 that has seen better days. Also, the seat needs re-covering. The main issue though is the usual missing pillion seat cowl, which is proving to be a real pain to source. Has anyone made their own, and if so, what materials did you use?
One option I have been looking at is replacing the entire seat unit if all else fails. Any suggestions?

I pretty sure you can get seat covers, I've seen them on Ebay and I think Wemoto or M&P do them. The pillion cowl is difficult to find and can be expensive, I seen them go in the past on Ebay for over £100 but recent prices have been a bit more sensible. To be honest they wouldn't take much making for anyone a bit handy with glass fibre and they could have a nice little earner as many people want them.
As far as I know no other seat will fit directly on, even the GB500 fittings are different, again, they come up quite often on Ebay.

You can get stainless exhausts made up for a fair price, there are a few posts on here somewhere.

I went for some stainless downpipes from OS Pipes......www.osmc.co.uk £180 with 10 year guarantee, and some universal silencers from a classic bike spares site....www.classicbikepartscheshire.com. I bought the bike with a 2-1 black micron exhaust, and it didn't look very good at all, wanted to get the bike looking more standard looking with the twin exhaust pipes.

Thats the place, mine came from there as well, I got a slightly larger bore than stock as my dyno tests showed that they would work well on a modded engine. I think someone on here reported that they worked well on a stock engine too.

OS Stainless operate in the village I live in, heard nothing but good reports of them !.

Regarding the rear seat cowl for the XBR500, I am currently making a mold for this.

I can recommend the Predator exhaust, I have one on my XBR and it makes a lovely sound
