Fork Rechroming
« on: July 23, 2012, 10:59:35 AM »
I'm having the fork seals changed on my SRX this week, which will hopefully get it through the MOT !  I've been advised that they might not stay sealed for too long due to pitting on the forks.  Last time I had some forks re-chromed (many years ago!) I sent them to Philpots  http://www.pittedforks.co.uk/   Are they still the recommended people for the job or does anyone have any other preference please ?

Yes, I've had two pairs done by them including a pair of Marzocchi M1R 41.7mm (!) tubes, a first class job !.

I had a pair of fork stanchions done recently (beginning of this year) by Philpots.  First class job especially as they include delivery both ways in the price :)

There is another place that Bill recommended. I remember an article about them in Classic Mechanics a few years ago. Here`s the link for them. I dont think there is much in the price.

I don't know if it's typical but a chap in the Laverda club used those people that Ian posted and said that they were a bit like 'dropping a pebble down a well and waiting for the splash', the splash never came and he ended up chasing his parts for several weeks before they eventually turned up. A good job mind you !. You pays your money...........................
