Title: XBR500 decompressor 89 model no external cable or lever
Post by: hyperbimduke on April 24, 2020, 04:22:28 PM
Hi, just noticed on my recently aquired 89 xbr there is no external cable or lever on the head as on my previous 85 model, when did this change, i can hear the same click when using the kick start so guess its all internal ?

As far as I Know, the decompressor system on the XBR never changed. Does it still have the lever on the cylinder head? Sounds like someone may have removed it. :-\

I have one of the last wire wheel SJ models 88/89. No external decompressor assembly. I think by that stage they were sharing some of the kit from the Dommie and later GB500. Surprising some of the differences though. I always assumed that the XBR and GB engines were identical - they are very similar but having recently acquired a 89 GB500 I see that the crankcase oil drain plug is on the RHS rather than the left on the XBR. I'll fetch my anorak! Lol
