£3.5K for an XBR anyone?
« on: November 16, 2011, 09:35:15 PM »
 :o

Nice bike but not original, painted engine, wrong indicators....I know it says zero miles, but they have another ( cheaper) one that also says zero miles and has definately been used!! ...imports maybe?...if so why import an XBR! (GB yes, but not XBR)

If they get £3.5K for that I'll see if they'll give me £4K for my ( original....mostly..)one!

Only 1 feedback too.....I think someone has got XBR and GB500 mixed up!

I sent a very polite message to the vendor explaining that XBR's, unlike GB's, are still fairly common in the UK and that £3.5K was somewhat expensive for a non standard bike. I  got a reply, not telling me to go forth and multiply as I'd expected but to tell me that he has several people interested and an offer of £3000 from an overseas buyer.......so........

For Sale!

Honda XBR500 SH , 30,000 miles from new, VERY original with Genuine Honda exhausts and very good condition. Regular oil changes.  Serious offers over £4000 only........... ;D

......actually if someone offers over £4k I AM serious!!!

I think I would snatch the overseas buyer`s hand off then.

Could a rather strong odour of bovine excretia  methinks  ;D

(I may be able to retire if I sell all my bikes at those sort of rates)

Out of curiosity I've put it, and the other XBR they are selling " from a private collection just needs recommisioning (ie not fully roadworthy) a snip at £1791!!" on my watchlist .. maybe that qualifies me as a 'interested party'?

I really hope they do sell it, it'll triple the value of my bike!!!

Jesus!!! Just think how much an SRX must be worth. ;D

10 bob & a Mrs Beetons cookbook?..... ;D ;D ;)...only kidding!...you'd never get the cookbook aswell

Hey Steve! Tell them they'll have to register if they want to post jokes here!  :D

£3500!!!! Have they got any jobs going in sales? If they're working on commission I bet their salesmen can retire after a few sales like that!!  :D

Quote from vendors ad

" A choice of many interesting, rare and desirable motorcycles, ALL P/X TAKEN MOTORCYCLE/NON MOTORCYCLE, ,HONDA XBR 500G, 1986 model, D reg, Black racing colours with orange stripe and TT500 decals, direct from long standing bluechip customer and fanatic bike collector, very correct bike, please call for full details, MUST BE SEEN!! very correct bike, priced to sell, pre sale bike preperation and warranty cover fully included,RARE opportunity, be ultra quick as this bike will not be around for very long!!"

hmmm.....

Black racing colours with orange stripe = Someone has painted an orange stripe on the original black tank

TT500 decals = Someone has put stickers saying TT500 on the sidepanels (NOT proper TT500 decals)

very correct bike = with aftermarket shocks, indicators, footpegs and painted engine and non standard paint.

priced to sell, = To who!... does he have a friend who wants to buy mine for £4K!

RARE opportunity = .....you'll be the only one to pay THIS much for an XBR!!

be ultra quick as this bike will not be around for very long!!" = REALLY!!

..Iwatch with interest, time will tell.

Amazingly. after 29 days, it seems that people haven't rushed to 'be quick' enough to grab the 'rare opportunity' to get a 'very correct example'!  Even his 'overseas bidder of £3000' must have had second thoughts as he's listed it again for another 29 days!.........the words 'I told you so' come to mind but I suppose I shouldn't gloat...  ::) ::) ::) ::)

I saw this at the time and it made me laugh too. At first glance it's a nice enough bike, but never, ever, 3.5k nice.

I see the dealer is based in York and it got me wondering if these were some of the XBRs owned by Tony of York who did some good work on XBRs and GBs in the early noughties.

What about the one in need of 'restoration' for a mere £1795....you must have a fortune in your garage GC!!

There was a very clean, original low mileage one that went for £1100 ish which I would have thought was about right.
