Is it possible to disassemble the springs from original XBR dampers? GrahamH

Yes they can be stripped down but you'll need some sort of spring compressor.  If you need the relevant section of the workshop manual send me your email off forum.

Thanks Steve,

I had not noticed the lock nut hiding under the rubber bump stop.  I knocked up a spring compressor from odds and ends and have them nicely apart ready to be spruced up.

Glad you got sorted. Unusually for Jap original shocks they work and last very well as long as the damper rod/seal is in good order.
